Managing Our Multiple Social Media Identities

flippingNORMALS uses several social media networks and tools to keep in touch with its clients, business partners and potential clients. In addition to our blog's RSS feed, we also have a Facebook fan page and a profile in Twitter.

Similarly we encourage our clients, whenever appropriate, to use social media to build a strong online presence. But how do you manage multiple accounts and profiles to all these tools?

Mashable has come up with a short guide on how to effectively manage multiple accounts and identities in several social networks.

We are mainly using RSS, a facebook Fan page and Twitter to send updates from our blog. The guide mentions some tools that we are currently using:

  • Ping.fm - to broadcast short updates into Facebook and Twitter
  • Twitterfeed - to feed blog posts into Twitter, and by chaining to Ping.fm, into Facebook as well.

There have been a few difficulties in interfacing with our Facebook fan page. With the recent changes made by Facebook to its fan page structure, updates from Twitter to Facebook are still problematic. From our testing, Twitter can only update a personal page, not a business fan page. So the status updates and posted notes will appear in a personal profile page, but not in the business fan page. Not really good, since we want to update our company's clients and contacts, not our personal friends.

There has been a lot of ire brought about by the changes to Facebook's fan pages. Hopefully the problem is fixed soon.

Oh, and a side note to using Ping.fm. If you add your Twitter account to Ping.fm, take note that if there are any punctuations in your password, you will not be able to authenticate successfully (Twitter itself allows punctuations in the password).
